On Air Personalities

Mary Shepherd
About
Mary Shepherd has had a love of radio from the time she was a child listening to fairy tales on a children’s radio show. The mystery and magic of radio latched on to her and just never let go. When she was in her teens she started broadcasting in Alaska. As she was going to college she worked in Fort Collins, Colorado, and was on the air the night of the Big Thompson flood. It was then she realized that radio was more than just entertainment; it could also be a life line in times of emergency.
Mary went on to work at stations in Denver, Atlanta, and Las Vegas. The only other love that competed with the one for radio was an interest in aviation. As the daughter of an Air Force pilot she felt compelled to get her pilot’s license, and also spent time as a flight attendant. In the end it was her love of radio that won out. Moving from “in the air” to “on the air,” Mary is proud to call Portland home.
She likes to spend time with her husband and three children, and if things get too hectic she relaxes with a jog in her neighborhood, curls up with a good book, or plunks away at her old piano. Mary enjoys keeping the Fish listeners entertained at night — her pleasant style makes evenings at the Fish a great way to wrap up your day!
